YouTube TV, a service provided by Google, has been testing Dolby 5.1 surround sound on Google TV, Android TV, and Roku devices. In a tweet, the platform stated that 5.1 audio will “launch on those devices next” if “everything runs smoothly” during the test.

Those hoping for surround sound while viewing YouTube TV on Apple TV, Xbox, PlayStation, or Fire TV might have to wait a little bit longer. Google’s streaming service provider, YouTube TV, is working on bringing 5.1 compatibilities to these platforms both internally and through partners.

The user can verify the app version by choosing the profile photo in the YouTube TV app, proceeding by tapping on About, and then clicking on the App Version. A speaker system supporting 5.1 audio will be required to enjoy the surround sound in full.
