Valve announced Monday that it is doubling the number of Steam Decks it ships to consumers. In a tweet from the official Steam Deck account, Valve stated that “production has picked up, and after today we’ll be shipping more than double the number of Steam Decks every week.”
The move was further explained by Valve designer Lawrence Yang in a tweet saying, “In prior weeks we were distributing x units/ week to customers, starting this week we’ll be shipping 2x units/ week.”
The increased manufacturing by Valve could mean that you can have your Steam Deck sooner than you anticipated if you’ve been anxiously checking your inbox every Monday and Thursday for the chance to place your reservation.
Valve has stated that the first Q3 order emails will be sent out on June 30
My reservation hasn’t changed from the Q3 projection on the Steam Deck Steam page, but maybe now that email will arrive anytime in the early portion of the quarter. Additionally, if you fall within that Q3 timeframe, you should start monitoring your mailbox on June 30 as that is when Valve expects to send out the first Q3 order emails.
You’ll want to keep an eye out for that email since Valve only offers you 72 hours to complete the order once it’s been sent out. However, if you do miss that window, Valve advises contacting Steam Support since it has clarified that it provides a grace period of “a few days.”
While production of the Steam Deck has accelerated, the official dock was postponed earlier this month from its “late spring” release date. However, when it arrives, it will have improved specifications above what Valve initially claimed.
