Twitter was down and experienced a significant outage. Around 8:05 AM ET, problems with the service began to surface. Many users reported receiving “over capacity” and even “this page is down” error messages. The problems affect Twitter on the web, on mobile devices, and even in the TweetDeck app.
Although Downdetector has received thousands of reports of issues with Twitter, Twitter’s own status page claimed that “all systems are operational.” However, as of this writing, it states “investigating possible outage.” While the main Twitter.com site loads, it is currently not able to log in or access tweets.
This is the first significant outage on Twitter since the social network began experiencing issues in February. In February, Twitter went offline twice in a single week, rendering users in some US regions unable to use the site owing to a “technical bug that was preventing timelines from loading and Tweets from posting.”
These new Twitter service troubles came only days after the social network launched a lawsuit against Elon Musk, the world’s richest man. Musk is attempting to back out of a $44 billion takeover agreement because Twitter has allegedly failed to respond to demands for information on the bot and spam activity on the platform.
Update July 14th, 9:26 AM ET: Twitter is now back online.
