Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, its “fastest GPU on the planet,” priced at $1,999 was launched on Wednesday. The “fastest GPU on the planet” is available in stores starting the day of launch from ASUS, INNO3D, Palit, Zotac, EVGA, Galax, MSI, Gigabyte, Gainward, and Colorful, after an unexplained delay following a January announcement. Nvidia has also designed a limited-edition Founders Edition board, which is available and sold online by Best Buy.

Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti features the same triple-slot design as the RTX 3090, and both cards appear similar at first glance. In the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, Nvidia is truly pushing the limits of its current 8nm GA102 processor, pairing it with 24GB of GDDR6X operating at 21GB/s. That’s the same amount of VRAM as the RTX 3090, but with a memory frequency that’s roughly 7.7 percent faster, resulting in a total memory bandwidth of 1008 GB/s.

According to Nvidia, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti comes with a GPU performance of 40 teraflops. It will have a base clock (base speed) of 1560MHz and a boost clock (max speed) of 1860MHz. And this is an improvement over the RTX 3090’s 36 teraflops, 1395MHz base clock, and 1695MHz boost clock rates. In addition, the RTX 3090 Ti has 10,752 CUDA cores, 78 RT-TFLOPs, and 320 Tensor-TFLOPs.

Speaking of gaming performance, Nvidia estimates the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti to be 64% quicker on average than the RTX 2080 Ti. Furthermore, Nvidia says that the “fastest GPU on the globe” is 9 percent quicker than the RTX 3090. In comparison, this isn’t much of an improvement over RTX 3090 in terms of gaming performance.

Who it’s intended for?

While Nvidia extensively promoted the RTX 3090 for 8K gaming when it first launched, the company promotes the RTX 3090 Ti to artists, professionals, and anybody else who needs the quickest GPU for gaming or creative tasks.

The firm intends RTX 3090 Ti for huge projects in programmes like Blender, Maya, or Cinema4D, as well as research systems for data scientists that work with massive data sets. Developers and CG animators that deal with large sets, high-resolution textures, and intricate models may find the RTX 3090 Ti handy for specific tasks.

Power and Price

What you need to consider will be the price and power needs before buying the new RTX 3090 Ti. The RTX 3090 Ti starts at $1,999, implying that we’ll see a slew of partner boards priced far beyond the $2,000 mark. It’s the first time a GeForce “gaming” card has been priced at roughly $2,000 retail, despite RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 cards retailing at similar levels throughout 2021.

The RTX 3090 Ti will also use a lot of power. As the card consumes up to 450 watts, you’ll need a power supply capable of producing at least 850 watts (with some boards likely to exceed that). This is an increase from the RTX 3090’s 350-watt consumption and 750-watt power supply needs. Nvidia has also replaced its 12-pin connector with a 16-pin PCIe Gen5 power cord. Because most power supplies do not come with the necessary connections, Nvidia is providing a dongle with three 8-pin connectors.

With GPU prices on the decline, the RTX 3090 Ti’s 30% higher price tag than its predecessor, the RTX 3090, with a promised performance boost of only 9%, would naturally put many people off the “fastest GPU on the planet.”Still, if you want to brag about having the “world’s fastest graphics card,” Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is now available for $1,999.
