Uptime Institute, a New York-based company, has developed a free online tool, “Data Center Career Pathfinder,” that catalogues career opportunities in the emerging digital infrastructure business.

Google, Meta, and Microsoft have assisted the company to develop this tool. The Career Pathfinder programme seeks to enhance transparency in the data centre business and reach out to people from all walks of life.

“The data centre business is one of the fastest-growing markets on the globe and provides a broad variety of employment responsibilities, yet far too many individuals are unaware of the career options inside it,” said Rhonda Ascierto, Vice President of research at Uptime Institute.

The utility covers the full range of tasks required in data centres and will give students and job seekers, knowledge about the data centre sector.

The platform offers over 230 distinct career profiles in data centre design, building, and operation, spanning from sustainability strategy through construction. Each career profile mentions the basic academic qualifications and essential qualities including communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking required for the role.

The Data Center business is growing, and so is the demand for a relevant and larger staff. As per Uptime Institute’s 2021 Global Data Center Survey of IT and data centre administrators, 47% of respondents reported difficulties finding competent people for employment, up from 38% in 2018.

Microsoft Data Center Community Workforce Development lead, Bob Reitinger said, “At Microsoft, our aim is to enable every individual and organisation on the globe to achieve more.” “The Career Pathfinder will assist job seekers from all over the region in discovering and building data centre careers, encouraging them to explore new options.”
