Instagram’s pinned grid post is a new feature that is being tested by the social media platform. This feature allows users to pin certain posts on top of their profile’s photo grid, similarly to the pinned tweets on one’s Twitter profile and pinned TikTok videos.
A Meta spokesperson in an emailed statement to TechCrunch wrote, “We’re testing a new feature that lets people feature posts on their profile.”
While currently in an experimentation phase, Instagram’s pinned grid post is only available to a small number of users on the platform. Those with access to the new feature will see a “Pin to your profile” option after they tap on the three-dot menu on the top right of the posts.
With this pinning feature on Instagram’s menu, creators will be able to highlight specific posts to draw followers’ attention to the content without having them scroll down through previous posts to discover it.
Instagram appears to have been working on this feature for at least a few months, since reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi discovered it in January.
At present, users can pin Stories to their profiles, but this new feature would extend this capability to posts as well. Although you can already highlight a post in a Story and then pin it to your profile, this new feature would make the process much quicker and clearer.
Besides, Instagram is also testing a new feature that will make it easier for users to discover and support social causes directly through hashtags.
