Epic returns with first major in-person Fortnite competition since 2019

Epic Games has announced its plans to host an in-person Fortnite competition, scheduled to take place in November. It will be Epic’s first significant in-person competitive Fortnite competition since the Fortnite World Cup in 2019.

The upcoming event, Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) Invitational 2022, will take place in the Raleigh Convention Center in North Carolina on November 12th and 13th.

Epic’s blog post by “The Fortnite Team,” stated, “We will be inviting a selection of top FNCS Duos from around the world who will have the opportunity to compete in a single lobby for a share of a $1,000,000 prize pool.”

However, the corporation emphasises that player health and safety are “the number one priority for holding any in-person event,” and cautions that if public health trends alter or area laws or guidelines move at any time this year, it may be forced to reschedule the event.

Epic has yet to confirm whether or not a Fortnite World Cup will be held in 2023. The first and only Fortnite World Cup, which took place in 2019, was a three-day spectacle with a $30 million prize pool.

However, Epic stated in April 2020 that there would be a World Cup owing to the COVID-19 epidemic. But by the end of that year, Epic stated that there would be no World Cup in 2021. Epic has continued to conduct Fortnite events online, but the FNCS Invitational 2022 appears to signal that the company is interested in hosting in-person tournaments once more.

Fortnite is nearing the end of its current season and its next in-game event will put the game to a finale. The event known as “Collision” takes place on June 4th at 4 p.m. ET.
