According to 9to5Google, Google has launched a new feature known as fast emergency dialer (FED), a tool that will allow users travelling overseas to swiftly contact police, fire, and medical services.

The feature has been designed for overseas travelling, but anyone is enabled to use it at any location. As stated in the Google Support Page, options relevant to the users’ location will be shown by the emergency dialer e.g.

•Quick Access: With this option, you can use a slider to call an emergency number with just a single action.

•Automatic emergency numbers: This option can make it easy for your phone to find the local emergency numbers while travelling.

•Multiple emergency numbers: With this option, the users’ phone can easily find the local emergency numbers like Police, Fire, or medical services, just by using the slider for whichever emergency service the user needs.

The emergency dialer will be located on your Pixel phone either on the phones’ lock screen via the emergency call button or at the power menu when the phone is unlocked.

Accessing the FED using the power button depends on the user’s device. Hold down the power button for five seconds on the Pixel 5 and prior, running on Android 11 and prior, as well as Android 12 on the phone, then click on emergency, and finally slide through the emergency menu. Press the power and volume up keys at the same time on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro running Android 12, then click emergency and use the slider.
