Apple rolled out a new beta firmware update for its Studio display on Tuesday. Apple confirms that the new “Apple Studio Display Firmware Update 15.5” addresses the display’s webcam quality issues.
As soon as early reviews of the Studio Display began to flood in last month, Apple promised that a software update will be rolled out to fix the Webcam’s quality issues. It is believed that this update would address flaws with the Studio Display’s camera, which has received widespread criticism from reviewers.
9to5Mac states that it has discovered some code modifications, which have made Apple Studio Display Firmware Update 15.5 make several changes to the frameworks for the webcam and Center Stage. 9to5MAc states, “We haven’t tested it yet, but it appears that this update addresses the poor camera quality in some way.”
The image quality of the Studio Display has surprisingly been unforgivable considering the display’s pricing. Moreover, it has been unexplainable for a camera configuration that was essentially the same as an iPhone 11, with a 12-megapixel sensor, f/2.4 lens, and A13 CPU.
Apple spokesperson Jennie Orphanopoulos, in a statement to The Verge, said “an update to the Studio Display firmware is now available with beta release of macOS Monterey 12.4. This beta update has refinements to the Studio Display camera tuning, including improved noise reduction, contrast, and framing.”
“Developers and everyone else can obtain the macOS Monterey 12.4 beta through Apple’s public beta programme,” reports The Verge.
Apple Studio Display Firmware 15.5 is only accessible to beta testers for now. It’s also a pity that you have to be running a beta version of macOS to repair the camera, which implies that the firmware will display in System Preferences on your Mac only if the linked Mac is running the macOS Monterey 12.4 beta.
The Studio Monitor update is 487 MB in size, which seems like a large upgrade for a display. However, it’s logical that Apple would want to test these modifications in a variety of environments before releasing them to the broader public.
