Amazon releases AR-powered virtual shoe try-on feature in its iOS app

Amazon announced a virtual shoe try-on feature for iOS users in its blog post. The E-commerce giant revealed that iOS users would soon be able to digitally try on shoes. Amazon customers in the United States and Canada may try on shoes from brands such as New Balance, Adidas, Reebok, and others.

Customers can just aim their camera at their feet and click through a range of shoes to see how they look from various angles in this virtual try-on. The tool, however, cannot be used to calculate shoe sizes.

Accessibility of Virtual Shoe try-on feature

For now, this new feature is only accessible to iPhone 7 and newer users on iOS. However, the tool will soon be made available for Android users as well, Amazon announced in a blog post.

In 2017, Amazon introduced an in-app augmented reality (AR) functionality that allowed users to see how a piece of furniture would look in their home spaces.

Following this, Amazon extended its approach to beauty as well. Since then, clients could try on makeup in the app as part of a collaboration with L’Oréal. As well as in an AR feature related to its brick-and-mortar Amazon Salon. Amazon Salon’s AR feature allows customers to preview how haircuts and hair colours appear on them. And that too before scissors, clippers, and curlers to work.

Other products featuring try-on functionality in Amazon’s app include select eyewear and Made for You custom-fit T-shirts.

Amazon customers in the United States and Canada may test the virtual shoe try-on by scanning the QR code on Amazon’s website. Or just by searching for the keyword “Virtual Try-On” within the Amazon iOS app.
